Increasing Google Page Rank

The challenge that most webmasters face is getting a website to land on the first page of search engine results. In other words, increasing the site’s page ranking. Google measures the authority, or popularity of a website through page ranking, on a scale of 0 to 10. Rank 10 to mean the most trusted site, rank 1 as the least, and rank 0 means your website is penalized or you just run it live. Most websites are geared towards achieving high page rank because it brings the authority to rule the web.

How does Google rank the sites? Google gathers the collective vote of all inbound links to a certain website and uses an algorithm for calculating page rank. Google considers three factors below:

  • Number of inbound links (“do follow”) from authority or relevant sites

  • Page rank quality of inbound links

  • Inbound links using relevant anchor text

Google is watchful over a site or page that receives links from a number of high PR sites. Google sees this as a vote to your site. Webmasters should note that Google does not give any bearing for page ranking for “no follow” links.

Google PageRank is important in the sense that with the high page rank, your site is marked as trusted and authoritative. With that, Google will likely crawl your site more frequently and give your site an index quicker as opposed to a site with low page rank. Not to forget is the fact that a site with higher page rank can be immune to Googles’ constant changes on its algorithms which is Google’s way of eliminating low quality sites.

Webmasters should therefore push efforts in getting the website a higher Google page ranking. As far as Google is concerned, your site’s page ranking will be calculated based on inbound links and webmasters should push efforts for the site to have the required quality and authority link sites. The most important step to take, therefore, is to focus on acquiring quality inbound links.

Acquiring quality inbound “do follow” links. As Google PageRank is primarily based on these links, it is important that your sites are linked by quality and authority sites. Quality over quantity is what is important in this case. There are four ways you can achieve this:

  • Blog Commenting. Leave comments on ‘do follow’ blogs as this is very effective in increasing Google page rank. Leave constructive comments using proper keywords. The site will appreciate your worthy comment which will most likely link your website in their future blogs.

  • Directory listing. Submit to search engine directories as they are a good way to have your website linked organically. A reputable directory passes link juice and helps increase page rank. List your site on at least 15 to 20 directories to boost the chance for increased page ranking.

  • Social Media Profile. Social media sites provide “do follow” links, thus helping to increase Google page rank. As in directory listing, join as many social media sites as possible.

  • Guest blogging. This is a slow process of increasing page rank because it requires great effort and time and some blogs may not be approved or accepted by the publishing blog.

It is also important to remember the following Don’t’s in order to increase your site’s Google PageRank. In summary :

  • Don’t use spammy outbound links or sites which are not trustworthy

  • Don’t make multiple sub-domains because these look spammy to Google.

  • Don’t buy links or be involved in link schemes. Google hates paid links.

  • Don’t stuff keywords. Google can detect if you are overusing your exact keyword.

  • Don’t over optimize. Using keyword variation can actually help.

Now, there is an increase in the number of search engine optimization company being cautious in achieving high page rank. With the fast algorithm changes, one wrong move can be very detrimental to your business presence over the Internet. Trust rating is one thing you cannot afford to lose and maintaining your authority is another story.
